World Police & Fire Games - Adelaide 2007

MEMORIES OF A GB DRINKING TEAM WITH A HOCKEY PROBLEM !!!

First of all, I must say a big thank you to all the organisers at the PSSA I really enjoyed my first games and Iam looking forward to many more.
As the recently formed Prison Service Hockey Team, we travelled to Adelaide determined to have a good time and to enjoy ourselves. We had one main aim and that was to at least score one goal!

As expected we struggled In the heat (35degrees) on some days, as the other teams involved had much larger squads, whereas we travelled with the bare minimum 10 players(soon to be hit by various injuries)

But we went out to enjoy ourselves, whatever the outcome, and this attitude throughout the competition won us the hearts of many people and made us many new friends.

We realised this In one memorable moment. After taking part In the final game of the competition, we lined up In the middle of the pitch at the end of the game and, as we started to leave the field, we were surprised, as the whole crowd gave us a standing ovation!
OH ! AND BY THE WAY- YES WE DID SCORE THE GOAL WE HAD HOPED FOR !

Although as half of Adelaide were told by our illustrious leader ANDY (KOALAS DON`T LIKE ME ) MABBETT we should have scored two.

Anyway, following on from this, a few days later, some of us went to see an Aussie Rules game by bus In our GB kit. When we got on the bus the driver turned to us and asked "Are you the team who played Hockey, didn't win a game, but got a standing ovation?

Strange how word gets around (or at least in Adelaide) - Just like the film "Cool Runnings" !!
